Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our first Koningsdag at Borrel last weekend. We had a great time!

With spring finally in the air, we closed down for a couple of days for spring cleaning and to make some adjustments to our menu. Our hearty winter dishes such as boerenkool and snert will be taking a hiatus for the summer months to make way for snackier fare. And that means … patat! … Or frites … or fries … or whatever you like to call them.

Over the winter months we’ve been testing many recipes and methods to try to come up with something close to the real thing in Holland. While we’d never claim to be as good as your local patat boer (“fries farmer”) back in the Netherlands, we’re pretty happy with them and we hope you’ll enjoy them!

We’re pleased to offer traditional toppings, including fritessaus (mayonnaise), curry ketchup, satay peanut sauce and combinations to make the beloved patat speciaal and patat oorlog (“war fries”).

We also played around a bit and have a fries dish featuring Dutch gravy and melted shredded Gouda. And we’re very proud to present a version of the classic Rotterdam concoction: kapsalon. Named after a hairdresser who, legend has it, wanted his favourite ingredients from the shawarma shop combined with fries, this dish is a delicious combo of fries topped with house-made beef shawarma, salad, melted Gouda and garlic sauce.

All our fries are hand-cut, blanched and double-fried and plated in rather adorable porcelain replicas of the tradition Dutch patat bakjes (containers).

Bitterballen, kroketten, kaassoufles, frikandellen and maatjesharing remain. And we’ve added a selection of broodjes (stuff on a bun) for a more filling meal. Broodje bal is a seasoned Dutch meatball, sliced on a bun with mustard, mayo and gravy; broodje rookworst is a Dutch smoked sausage with mustard on a bun; and the kipcorn burger is a corn flake-covered chicken burger deep-fried to perfection.
